OOC: This takes place after Wake Up Flock, when the flock has agreed to help Subira rescue Ruby from the institute in New York. They are just about to start the journey.
Subira stepped forward and shook out her shiny black wings, and spread them wide. She winced, the scars on her back where they had grafted the wings onto her a bitter reminder of the day others had escaped, and she had not. She didn't know them, but she hoped they were happy, where ever they were.
She stared at the rest of the Flock, and took off, flapping her wings hard until she hit a thermal. She waited for the others to rise with her. She threw her face in the wind, and sighed. She really wasn't that used to flying, since she had only recently escaped.
At the School, they had performed tests to see how well she would fly with this or that injected in her blood, with Ruby as insurance that she would try hard. Ruby had performed these tests better than Subira, being lighter and smaller. She was a faster and higher flier, but she lacked the strength to lift things with her in flight. Subira shook her head. Memories of Ruby only brought grief. She glided on the thermal, glad for the boost.
She flew down to Cat's level, and asked, "How did you guys escape from the School? I ambushed them and ran out the door."

"We worked together and used the whole situation to make our get-away." I told her easily as my blue-white wings flapped in the current.
I took a 360* watch of the area, and saw no threats in the air around us. I glanced down towards the rest of the Flock where they softly floated, waiting for instructions.
"Was your sister at the School in the Middle-Of-Nowhere?" I asked Subira quickly. If Ruby had been there, then chances were high that she had been moved with the other Experiments to New York. That's what happened when Schools were breached and they had to change the Experiment's location.

Subira nodded. "I heard that preparations were already being made to ship my sister and I to a place where they were mainly focusing on combining human DNA to animals. They wanted to see if they could get them to our standards by starting with a lion. That was the last straw for me, and when they came for me to put me in a carrying crate, I pretended to be sleeping, and..." Subira had to look away. She couldn't think about that day. She couldn't think about Ruby, trapped in such a place. "It was in New York, New York, a few hours driving distance from the Institute of higher Living." She froze, her fierce golden eyes narrowing. She looked down as if trying to zoom in on the ground. She turned to Cat and whispered in her ear, "I think that there are Erasers down there. Let's get into a cloud or something, so they can't see us. The Erasers feel eager, like they can't wait... As soon as they catch sight of us, they'll take off and attack. I can't fight well in this form. I'm not exactly the best flier." this much was true. Subira had too much muscle from her lioness form to be swift or powerful in the air.

I nodded to myself as Subira told her story. I only froze when she pointed out the Erasers. "Erasers!" I snapped for the rest of the Flock to hear. "Get in the clouds!"
I knew that flying this high would leave us vulnerable because we would have a lack of air so we wouldn't be able to fight off any attacks. Yet that was our only option at the moment, and I was still smarting from my self-inflicted wounds from when I first met Subira. I shivered just thinking about it...

Subira strained her wings and pushed herself higher. Her raven wings, powered by her huge muscles, gleamed darkly in the sun as she soared up. Her wing muscles began to burn as the oxygen level lowered, and hse gasped ofr breath. her wing-beat slowed and she dropped slightly, but she managed to stay above the clouds. She panted, and her golden eyes dulled ever so slightly. She heaved in another breath, and felt better, but still weak. She hid herself completely in the cloud, and shivered from the damp, freezing air.

I flew up into the clouds as well, but since I was built to handle situations like this, I found myself barely straining to breath. I knew the other would need more air than me, so I would be the one to lead the Erasers away if they tried to come after us in a chopper. I glanced over at Subira who looked like she was having the hardest time of us all. She hadn't been born with wings, I remembered...well, most of us hadn't. I didn't know about the others exactly, but I figured a couple of them had been born with the wings, unlike me. I had gone through the painful grafting part of it all, and I still remembered the pain. Just by thinking about it, I felt pain sear my back, but I ignored it. _____________________________________________________________________
Aaron glanced around as he made sure the Flock was okay. His gaze drifted down to the Erasers and his eyes hardened like ice. He felt himself quiver and he wished there was water nearby where he could give the Erasers a good-washing. The tiger within him practically licked its chops, wanting to go down and rip the throat out of the Erasers...With a shake of his black-hair, Aaron knew he had to abandon these vicious thoughts, or he would go down and rip them to shreds. Being trained to kill had never left him...and he had killed too many to even try to count...
